Hes been back with the Winnipeg Goldeyes for less than a month this season, but four-year Goldeye Chris Salamida has become the stopper of Winnipegs pitching rotation. Salamida allowed just two hits and posted his second complete-game shutout in as many starts Tuesday night, as the Goldeyes downed the St. Paul Saints 5-0 in Minnesota. While Winnipeg did its part to keep pace in the American Associations wild card race, the out-of-town scoreboard wasnt as kind. The wild card-leading Gary South Shore RailCats remain three games ahead of the Goldeyes after beating the Wichita Wingnuts 7-4 the first game of a doubleheader. In going the distance, Salamida has improved to 5-0 in six starts and became the first Goldeyes pitcher since Roger Luque in 2004 to have at least two complete-game shutouts in a season. Salamida has gone 16 scoreless innings. "He wants to pitch in the big games and he thrives in that moment," Goldeyes pitching coach Jamie Vermilyea said. "Thats why we were so eager to get him back."
