Terrorism uses violence against people Freddy Galvis Blue Jays Jersey , with politics or religious being key motivators. Its acts are strategic to attract attention through intimidating some people even pressuring the government act in some way. Since terror organizations guard individual secrecy, they give no vivid target for retaliation. Hence, difficult prevent. After the end of Cold War, terrorism has become the greatest threat to world peace as well as security. With increased technology among terror groups, countermeasure continues to be obliged to become more sophisticated. Consequently, terror organizations have become complex to the extent that they have networks throughout the world, and they continue to recruit as many extremists as possible (May, Jochim & Sapotichne, 2011). They have developed funding systems, infrastructure and mobilized resources which m has made the most dangerous. The September 11 has remains as one of the turning viewpoints of terrorism among Americans. The United States has remains the main target of terror from the fact that it has remained at the forefront of fighting global terrorism. The attack motivated Bush鈥檚 administration as well as the Congress to come up with a strategy that would prevent and mitigate such occurrences. To counter terror attacks and other calamities, homeland security department plays key roles (May, Sapotichne & Workman, 2009). The departments protect the Americans from terror threats. It is the main principle and highest priority behind the department. The second role of the department is fulfilling America鈥檚 mission by securing the borders. This step prevents entry of terrorist into the US territory. The Department also plays a critical role in facilitating legal immigration while at the same time cracking down on an individual who violate American laws. This strategy remains critical in ensuring ill people never enter the United States. The fourth role of the department is to develop an urgent sense of readiness to handle terror as well as natural incidences in the country and finally to unify and mature the Department for proper functionality. The department of homeland security addresses terrorism through managing transnational threats. It gets done through a comprehensive strategy of securing US borders which include working with international, state, local governments as well as private sector. This approach limits foreign terrorist from entering the United States. The department develops and deploys technology as a way of maximizing port security and enhancing the security of critical transportation networks such as surface, air, as well as maritime networks connecting the US and the world. The department also ensures effective incidence management. It develops elaborate interagency contingency plans for terror attacks and tests the plans using realistic exercises. The department also develops plans, facilitates and executes counter attacks against terror activities. This role does not only respond to real attacks but also deters potential attacks (Cass, 2007). Since terrorism remains unpredictable, there are ways that the department does to eliminate this problem. These include border surveillance, security monitoring of institutions that possibly promote recruitment of terror sympathizers, proper screening of all people entering the United States, strong space, maritime as well as land security and carrying out retaliatory attacks on terrorists. Citizens also need to share intelligence reports with security agencies on any terror suspects. Managing weapon among citizens is also critical in preventing local terrorism particularly the lone wolf attacks. Monitoring of communication channels can also help track communications particularly those that intends to facilitate attacks. To conclude, fighting terrorism is a complex activity. As the department tries to do what it can, citizens need to play their role in assisting the government to curb terrorism. Terrorism remains a key problem of modernity and actors need to join hands to reduce and if not eradicate it.
